My review of the Auxx-attic lift is not a positive one. I rate this product on quality, design, ease of installation, support, and provided instruction.
Quality. 3 stars. They use good quality materials, and hardware. I did purchase different screws to attach the cover on the bottom of the lift, as those provided were not self tapping. Also, the motors are not durable. Drop a motor on the floor, and the plastic end caps with the adjustment screws will break, ( a $400+ mistake I made).
Design. 3 stars. This lift has a higher load capacity than other attic lifts. Also, because there is no winch cage, like Versalift, you can stack boxes 3 or four high. That being said, Versalift is an appliance you install, Auxx lift is a kit you build, literally, piece by piece. The difference is telling. They really need to consider doing some pre assembly before they ship.
Ease of installation. 1 stars. Installing this device is not an easy task. You must have carpentry skills for framing, and knowledge of the tools. This is a kit, and depending on your skill level with tools and mechanical acumen, you may want to consider employing a contractor. And then there is the final step of adjusting the platform to the ceiling and floor. This is not easy, and takes a good bit of time. Also, the motors overheat fairly quickly, so if you run the platform more than a couple of times in this process – bingo, it stops and will not run again until it cools down. For all of these reasons, if you are really sold on this lift, I suggest hiring a certified installer. While Auxx-lift says they have installers everywhere, I seriously doubt that, so getting qualified help may be problematic. (figure at leastr another $1500 for installation.
Support. 1 stars – I mentioned the broken motor. Just try and get someone on the phone. You must leave a message or send an email, and they will call you back. That being said, they do reply, and listen to your problem. But the follow through is poor. They sent me the wrong replacement motor the first time. They had to ship me the correct motor and each delivery took ten days, (not their fault). It took nearly two weeks before the motor arrived, and it didn’t match the original.
Provided instructions. 0 stars. The provided instructions are abysmal. They consist of photo copies that have faded out portions of print, and from what I can tell. They are C or D size prints reduced to fit on standard 8 ½ X 11 paper. This makes reading some parts very difficult. They are also poorly written. The average graduate engineer could figure it out with a little effort, but the average home owner will need help. And that help comes in the form of youtube videos, showing how it is all put together. These videos are not professionally made, and have left me with the impression that this product was put together in someones garage/shop. Frankly, this part of the product is a very good reason not to purchase an Auxx-lift.
Overall rating – 2 stars. I would not recommend this product. There are better alternatives. Sadly, this great design will go the way of the Dodo. Either it will be bought out by someone who knows how to market, package, and support the product, or more likely be driven out of business by their competitors. I strongly suggest looking for the other options. You will be happier.
